Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) are medications that have been found to be very effective for weight loss. They belong to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.
How Much Weight Loss Can I Expect?
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are effective for weight loss in most patients however individual results may vary. In a clinical study with Semaglutide the mean change in body weight from baseline at 68 weeks was -14.9%. In a 72 week study with Tirzepatide, patients had a mean percentage change of weight of -15.0% (5mg/week), -19.5%(10mg/week), and -20.9% (15mg/week)
What Is The Cost Of Starting Treatment?
The Cost of the initial consultation with Dr. Plaman is $75 to help determine if you are a good candidate to start the weight loss program. The cost of the medication is dependent on the dose and starts at $250 for the first month of Semaglutide treatment. The maximum cost of Semaglutide treatment is $350 per month. Follow up appointments with Dr. Plaman are $50 each and is recommended at least every 3 months while initiating therapy. Tirzepatide is more expensive and starts at $500 per month of treatment.
How Do Semaglutide and Tirzepatide Work?
These medications mimic the GLP-1 hormone which reduces appetite and promotes the signal of feeling full. These medications lower high blood sugar by increasing the amount of insulin that is released and delay gastric emptying while slowing motility in the GI tract.
How is Semaglutide and Tirzepatide Administered?
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are administered via once weekly subcutanous injections using a small needle. Education is provided to you in the office by Dr. Plaman to ensure you are comfortable with how to manage your home injections. If you prefer, the medication can also be administered to you in the office by Dr. Plaman.
Are there any Side Effects?
The side effects of Semaglutide and Trizepatide are typically mild with slow initiation of therapy. Side effects can include gastrointestinal issues such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, acid reflux, nausea. They can also include dizziness, fatigue, headache. It is important to review past medical history with Dr. Plaman during the consultation to determine if starting therapy is safe for you.
